Relays and electronics level crossing protection system type UP-1 is used to ensure safety at crossings of public roads and railway lines by notifying road users on rail vehicle(s) approaching the crossing and simultaneously blocking the traffic with barriers. It is designed for application at cat. 1 level crossings.

The system may be installed and operated on

• crossings of roads with railway lines, in particular at railway stations, branching posts, trunk lines
• crossings of roads with railway sidings

The system comprises control and monitoring equipment and warning devices with actuating and signalling components. The system may additionally comprise a CCTV component, used for remote surveillance of the level crossing. The system also enables mating with interlocking rail traffic control equipment, coordinating railway operations with the status of crossing equipment and mating with other signaling systems, e.g. street lights, anti-burglary systems.
